Auditions and Active Membership

We welcome all who sing and love the world of music. The best way to get started is to arrive at the rehearsal and audition within a few weeks! Visit our rehearsal schedule to find out more.

Candidates requirements for active singing membership are as follows:

• Proposed and seconded by active, retired active, or associate members.
• Candidates must also successfully complete a voice tryout.

1. We are a male chorus. Please make sure that you are male.
2. You must have attended a university or college to be eligible for membership.
3. Come to the first rehearsal of any fall or spring semester and meet the Dean of Freshman, who will provide a sponsorship card and coordinate a voice trial with the Music Committee.
4. If you have not been singing recently, you might consider a few singing lessons, or at least vocalize for a few weeks, prior to your audition. Musical tone, a sense of pitch, and an ability to blend and harmonize with other parts are all requirements.
5. The ability to read music is not a pre-requisite, but it helps a lot. We also coach people.
6. You will be given, in advance of your audition, a piece of music and asked to sing your part in a quartet during the audition process. You will also be requested to sing one song of your own choosing.
